TIPS

#1. Conduct a past year review.

Rather than set New Year's resolutions, consider a past year review. Look through your calendar and photos from the past 12 months. Take note of the events that brought peak experiences. Then, get those experiences on the 2023 calendar as soon as you can!

#2. Set up systems so you can't fail.  

Author and cartoonist Scott Adams believes in setting systems over goals. While your goals determine your direction (i.e. read X number of books this year), your systems — like if you have a reading routine — are what actually determine your progress. As you plan 2023, review your current systems and make improvements accordingly. 

#3: Face those little fears.

Discomfort brings growth. As Eleonor Roosevelt said, "everything you want is on the other side of fear." Those uncomfortable moments — whether a difficult conversation at home, approaching that stranger, or even switching careers — are what ultimately bring growth. If something scares you, go for it.  

#4: All the advice in the world cancels out. 

"If you survey enough people, all the advice will cancel to zero." If you ask someone what worked for them in their career, their recommendations may not apply to you. You may just be getting their winning lottery ticket numbers. So don't hesitate to reject most advice. Stay true to only the insights that speak to you.
