What's up, Next Gen Fam!

In today's fast-paced world, it's important to take control of your own development. That's because those who can learn rapidly will be able to adopt new in-demand skills and progress faster in their careers.

This week, we're covering tips to help you accelerate your learning.

Let's dive in!

TIPS

Identify the critical learning units.

Before you begin learning a new concept, identify the critical learning units. What are the 20% of concepts that, once learned, will yield 80% of the results? For example, if you’re studying a new language, identify the 20% of conversational words (or phrases) that have the greatest utility and focus strictly on those.

Determine the best sequence in advance.

Sometimes, learning can be drastically accelerated if you follow the right sequence. For example, if you're learning to code, do you know which language to start with? Does this change if you hope to create mobile apps vs. program a website?Β Defining your goals early on and determining the best sequence can accelerate your learning.

Set up stakes.

People tend to work more effectively when there's something on the line. For example, imagine you and a friend would both like to learn the same instrument. To speed up the learning process, create a challenge where the loser gives up something of value (i.e. money). With stakes, you're more likely stay disciplined through the inevitable roadblocks.

Use tech tools.

Whatever your learning goals are, there's likely a tool that can help. For flashcard simulators, try Quizlet or Anki. For notetaking, give Evernote a go. For writing help, resources like Grammarly or Hemingway can help you avoid common mistakes. Try to find the tool for you. Just a few minutes of research might save you an hour of learning time!
