What's up, Next Gen Fam!

Have you ever had a "light-bulb moment?"Ā This could be the instant you solved a tough problem or thought of a fantastic new business idea. Regardless, these moments always bring a wonderful surge of adrenaline. Sometimes, these bursts of inspiration can even change a life (and eventually, the world).

This week, we're covering ways to boost your creativity and achieve more "light-bulb moments."Ā

Let's dive in!

TIPS

#1: Steal like an artist.Ā

As the writer Austin Kleon said, "Nothing is original. All creative work builds on what came before."Ā For example, evenĀ The BeatlesĀ attributeĀ much of their style to Elvis Presley. If you want to be more creative, collect great ideas. Take note those that speak directly to your soul. The more ideas you collect, the more you can choose to be influenced by.

#2: Add constraints.Ā

In 1960, Dr. Seuss's editor challenged him to write a book with just 50 different words. He responded by creatingĀ Green Eggs and Ham, one of the most popular children's books of all-time. That's the power of contraints. To produce great work, try writing a song in 10 minutes, painting a picture with one color, or starting a business without funding. Constraints bring out your best!

#3: Daily silence.Ā

Creative ideas tend to come from the subconscious part of the mind. That's why great ideas seem to pop up during mundane activities, like doing the laundry. But when you spend every spare moment with a podcast or video, you drown out that genius. So, embrace silence to bring your best ideas to light. Next time you're about to hit "play" on something, give silence a go.Ā

#4: Use your hands.Ā  Ā

The best brainstorming usually happens away from a laptop. As one cartoonist said,Ā "When a computer is involved,Ā things are on the inevitable path to being finished. But in my sketchbook, the possibilities are endless." To be more creative, break from your laptop and use your hands. Write on a whiteboard, use stickies, and draw sketches. Creating should feel like play!
