4 Ways to Develop A Resilient Mind 🚀

How to build a positive reflex, breathing techniques to find your calm, tips from Tony Robbins, along with roles at Google X, Clay, Nash, and more!

What's up, Next Gen Fam!

According to the psychologist Angela Duckworth, the #1 predictor of individual achievement is not talent or intelligence — it's grit.

But can grit be developed? According to Duckworth, the answer is yes. This week, we're covering tips to become more gritty and resilient.

Let's dive in!

TIPS

#1. Ask yourself: What's great about this?

When you run into an obstacle, ask yourself this question. According to Tony Robbins, the question will queue a positive mindset and keep you focused on what you can control. For example, if you're stressed about exams, your response could be “I have more exams than usual, but that means I'll feel better than normal when I’m finished.”

#2. Run your race.

Competition is hardwired into us. Students compete for jobs. Employees compete for promotions. But this constant competition can wear you out. That's why the great stoics preached to only race against yourself. Keep yourself accountable by writing down this reminder every day. Or, recite it while meditating. Try to stay on an intrinsic journey!

#3: Remind yourself: Challenges bring growth.

When you look back at your proudest moments, what stands out? Odds are, your most meaningful memories are the struggles you worked hard to overcome. So, if you're in a stressful situation, remind yourself that challenges bring growth. When you remember that your current challenges will make you stronger, the obstacles become easier to handle in the moment.

#4: Breathe into your diaphragm.

Lastly, specific exercises, like diaphragmatic breathing, can bring instant relief. When we're stressed, we breathe into our upper chest. When we're relaxed, we breathe into our diaphragm. According to the Victoria Department of Health, you can queue a relaxation response by breathing directly into your stomach (where the diaphragm is located). Give it a go!
